State College Veterinary Hospital Services

Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.  Most recently we have added a therapy laser to help senior pets with chronic pain conditions.

Surgical Services

Our surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. We offer both traditional and laser surgery options for most soft tissue procedures.

Anesthesia

We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. We take great care to use the safest, individualized anesthetic protocol for your pet, hence we may often request blood work to better select the best drugs. Using modern equipment such as a pulse ox and blood pressure machine, the patient's vital signs are monitored during anesthetic procedures.

Internal Medicine Consults

The great majority of our internal medicine cases are treated in house, including diabetes, Cushings and Addison's disease, liver and kidney disease, Lyme disease, cancer and many infectious diseases. If there is a particularly perplexing case, we often utilize contacts with specialists in both private practice and university settings, or in some cases advise our patients to travel to see a specialist for the highest possible level of care.

Radiology Services

Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.  We now offer digital x-rays along with a hand-held Nomad that takes dental x-rays.  This allows our staff take a clearer more accurate image for diagnostic purposes.  It also allows our doctors to send the images to any specialist thru the internet, and even copy the images onto a CD for you to keep with your animals medical record.

Electrocardiography Services

We provide ECG services through IDEXX, a nationally recognized team of cardiologists that read, interpret, and provide specialist consultation on your pet's ECG.

Dentistry

Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.  We now have a hand held dental x-ray machine that allows our doctors to take x-rays of your pets teeth.  This helps our doctors diagnosis any problems with your animals teeth under the gums that we normally would not be able to see.

Laboratory

Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize reference veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Permanent Identification

We offer AKC brand microchip identification. Microchips may be implanted in the office or during any anesthesia procedure. We also provide the lifetime license forms that can be submitted for your dog after micro chipping.

Pharmacy

We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets from several different companies.

Individualized Flea and tick Control Programs

We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, flea and tick issues in your yard and on your pet.

Dietary Counseling

We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Nikki is our food specialist and can help you in your needs to pick the best diet, order prescription foods, etc.

Behavioral Counseling

We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
