It's 2012.... Which Means Your Dog Needs a New Dog License.

Every new year, the state requires under Pennsylvania's dog law, that your dog three months of age or older must be licensed with the county.  WE DO NOT HAVE LICENSES HERE but you can go online to the Centre County Treasurer's Office to find out where to purchase a new 2012 tag.  New tags should be wore on collars starting January 1, 2012.  Dogs that are not licensed with the treasurer's office either with a yearly tag or lifetime license could subject their owners to penalities and fee's.  Price of the license depends on owners age, and if the animal has been spayed or neutered.  Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions regarding a new dog license.

In order to get a lifetime license from the county, you must have your dog tatooed or microchiped.  Our doctors at State College Veterinary Hospital recommend microchipping your pets.   While Lifetime Licenses are only required for dogs, we do also recommend microchipping cats as well if they go outside.  Microchipping is a simple procedure that is done in our office in as little as 15 minutes and provides your pet with a way of permently identifing them.  A veterinarian injects the microchip (which is about the size of a grain of rice) between the should blades.  No anestheic is required, and most animals do not react any differently than they would when they were given a vaccine.  Our office will then send you home with all the paperwork to apply for the lifetime license and information on how to register the pet on a national database that specializes in lost pet recovery.

We microchip using HomeAgain microchips that will last the life of your pet.  The microchip is read when a scanner, that most veterinary hospitals and animal shelters have scan over the pet between the shoulder blades.  The microchip number will appear and we are able to contact HomeAgain to retreive your contact information or the place where the microchip was inserted.   Contact our office if you would like to set an appointment to have your pet microchipped.
