February is National Pet Dental Health Month

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 75% of dogs and cats show signs of periodontal (dental) disease by the age of three.  Left untreated, dental disease can cause your pet pain and eventually lead to tooth loss, kidney damage, heart disease and many other complications.  Dental disease can lurk beneath the gums, not really visible to the pet owner.

Signs of Dental Disease:

Tooth loss                                           Subdued behavior

Bad breath                                          Yellow crust on teeth

Bleeding gums                                    Swallowing food whole

Dropping food out of mouth              Change of chewing or eating

Abnormal drooling

Fortunately, this threat to your pet’s health can be avoided with simple preventive measures like regular dental cleanings and check ups.  If you think that your pet has dental disease or having issues with their mouth; please contact our office to set up an appointment.
