Our veterinary hospital works closely with Canine Partners for Life (CPL) and The State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Smithfield (Huntingdon) to provide one or two puppies each year with veterinary care.  Canine Partners for life trains service dogs, home companion dogs and residential companion dogs to assist individuals who have a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities.   The prison receives these puppies from the CPL breeding program or are donated by local breeders at a young age.  The inmates live with these puppies 24 hours a day training them until they are 16 months old; before being returned back to CPL to determine placement.  We have had the special honor giving some of these puppies while at SCI their wellness exams, vaccinations, bloodwork and medications, then spay/neutering them all at no cost to the program.  Our doctors volunteer their time to make sure each of the dogs we sponsor are growing and developing into top physical condition for placement.
